Wayne Rooney’s move to Major League Soccer club DC United could now be OFF after Everton sacked manager Sam Allardyce, reports claim.

Rooney had reportedly agreed a deal in principle to join the MLS side this summer after growing frustrated with his role in the Everton team.

But, according to The Sun, England’s record goalscorer has put his United States switch on hold after Big Sam was given the boot by the Toffees.

Allardyce was axed by Everton chiefs on Wednesday, despite saving the club from Premier League relegation and leading them to an eighth-place finish.

With the former England boss now gone, Rooney will wait to speak to their new manager about his role at the club before deciding whether to stay at Goodison Park or complete his move across the pond.

The 32-year-old wants to know if he features in the next boss’ plans after a frustrating campaign under Allardyce.

Rooney’s return to his boyhood club has not gone as he hoped.

After a glittering 13 years at Manchester United, the striker was expecting a big role when he sealed a move back to Goodison last summer, but he was instead used sparingly by the former England boss.

Despite telling talkSPORT there were no problem between the pair, Allardyce is understood to have told Rooney he would struggle for game time next season.

That led to the former Three Lions skipper considering a move to Washington DC.

But with Allardyce out of the way and the club searching for a new coach to lead the club forward, it is claimed Rooney could now stay for another year – seeing out his contract at Everton – before sealing his move to the MLS.
