Angel Correa has revealed he has considered leaving Atletico Madrid ‘many times’.
The 22-year-old has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time and they were heavily linked with him during the summer window in particular.
Real Sociedad were also reportedly close to landing the forward in August but he eventually decided to stay and fight for his place in the first team at Madrid.
With the likes of Antoine Griezmann ahead of him in the pecking order, Correa has often struggled for first-team chances and started just 10 La Liga games in the whole of last season.
But with Griezmann currently suspended, Correa has already made three league appearances, two of them starts, scoring twice.
He did, however, consider a move before this season got under way.
He told El Pais: “Yes it’s true that I thought about it many times.
“I always want to play, it is the mindset you must be in as a professional and what you prepare for, so when you don’t it is difficult.
“When you don’t play for a while it changes your mentality and it is hard to get back into the mindset of preparing for games regularly.
“Now I am getting more opportunities to play I must take advantage of that and ensure I impress the coach.”
