Anderlecht have rejected West Ham’s deadline day approach for star midfielder Leander Dendoncker.
The 22-year-old has been on the Hammers’ radar for the whole of the January window and manager David Moyes is said to be a big fan of the Belgium international.
West Ham have been in talks with the player’s representatives for some time but were dithering over making a concrete offer for the highly-rated midfielder.
But, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, the Hammers have in fact launched a last-minute bid for Dendoncker, only to see their initial proposal turned down.
Anderlecht are believed to value the player at £20million and although it’s unclear how much West Ham offered, it is thought that their opening bid fell well short of the Belgium giant’s expectations.
They are hopeful of at least holding out until the summer, when they believe they can attract a bigger sum for Dendoncker and will have time to search for a viable replacement.
