With golf’s first major of the year just two weeks away, Tiger Woods’ manager Mark Steinberg claims the 14-time major champion is “not in a situation to even talk about playing in the Masters.”

Woods, 41, has won four Green Jackets (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005) but looks in severe danger of missing his third Masters in four years due to injury.

The former world number one last played in the Dubai Desert Classic in February but was forced to withdraw from that tournament after just one round due to multiple back spasms.

According to Steinberg, a Masters appearance is doubtful, yet still possible.

“I talked to Tiger four hours ago on the phone,” said Steinberg. “We’re not in a situation to even talk about playing in the Masters now.

“He’s gotten treatments and is progressing and hoping he can do it. There’s not been a decision one way or the other. I couldn’t give you a fair assessment, but to say it’s doubtful is an absolutely inaccurate statement.”

Asked if Woods was hitting balls, Steinberg said: “I don’t want to talk about specifics yet. When we’re ready to get into that, we’ll disclose it. He’s working hard at getting better, he’s working hard at progressing.”
