“It was an easy decision after speaking with the coaching staff, everyone made me feel at home straight away,” Nicholson told the Minnesota club’s website.
A product of the Hearts Football Academy, Nicholson made his debut in August 2013 and went on to make 127 appearances, scoring 16 goals.
Minnesota coach Adrian Heath said: “He’s a player who can cut inside from either side of the pitch.
“It’s not very often that you get the opportunity to bring in a player from Europe, who looks at MLS as a step up. We are delighted to have him and we think he will be a great addition to our squad.”
The Minnesota franchise only came into the MLS this season and they are currently bottom of the 11-team Western Conference after 19 games.
