Rory McIlroy made a young Northern Irish golfer’s dream come true this week when responding to his letter.
Carter McLarnon, 7, wrote a letter to his hero McIlroy while at school, asking him a number of questions relating to his early days as a golfer, being inspired by Tiger Woods and his thoughts on one day completing the career grand slam at The Masters.
Check out the letter and McIlroy’s reply below, along with the personalised golf ball Rory sent him…
Last season, Carter impressed GolfMagic.com so much that we featured his golf swing in our ‘Send-A-Swing’ series, which you can check out in the video below…
Having grown up just down the road from the four-time major champion, Carter – a member at Belvior Golf Club in Belfast – is rapidly becoming a young golfer to watch.
Carter competed in the highly-competitive US Kids Golf Tour over the spring and summer, and came away with a very respectable top-five finish in the overall standings.
As impressive as Carter’s recent results have been on the golf course, a letter back from McIlroy caps it all.
“I’m so excited Rory sent me a letter back, it means so much to me,” said Carter. “It felt like a dream when realising he had spent the time to reply to my questions.
“Rory is my hero and always will be. He has done so much for the game and has inspired me to play golf. I love his swing – I try to copy it as much as possible when working on my game.”
