Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson was meant to be the dream threeball in the morning wave of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills on Thursday. After just five holes, it’s proved more of a nightmare with the trio a combined 14-over par.

McIlroy missed a birdie putt from 10 feet at his opening hole, the 10th, and then bogeyed 11 and 12 before making double bogeys at both 13 and 14, the latter of which he took two hacks to escape the knee high rough down the right flank…

Spieth bogeyed 11, triple bogeyed the 12th and bogeyed 14, while Mickelson bogeyed 10, 12 and 13.
