Mauricio Pochettino has poured praise on “massive prospect” Jadon Sancho.
Sancho will face Premier League opposition for the first time on Wednesday when he lines up for Borussia Dortmund against Tottenham.
The north London side had previously been linked with the winger when he was still with Manchester City.
Sancho himself confirmed that Tottenham had shown an interest in signing him before Dortmund swooped in 18 months ago, but Pochettino was reluctant to discuss the situation.
“I’m not talking about that,” he said when asked if he had pursued the 18-year-old.
The Argentine was more than happy to talk about his development, however.
“He doesn’t surprise me,” Pochettino said.
“We knew very well that he was capable of doing what he’s doing now, with game time.
“The quality he was showing at Manchester City and with his national team – we were talking in the last few years, that he was a massive prospect to be a very good player.
“He is showing now in Germany that he can cope with the pressure of playing in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
“And it doesn’t surprise me, his talent is there.”
