Some big money contracts have been handed out in the NBA this summer, and some were more surprising than others.
If you had said Nicolas Batum would earn a five-year, $120 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets after being traded from Portland last summer, most people would have thought you were mad.
But, a combination of his excellent play and a rising salary cap proved to be one hell of a lucrative cocktail for the Frenchman.
However, it is not the first time Batum has inked a jaw-dropping deal in his career.
The 27-year-old inked a four-year, $46 million deal to remain with the Portland back in 2012. While he still played well, he said it was pointless in the grand scheme of things. Now, he understands his worth much better.
”I was a young guy at the time and I didn’t know what to expect,” Batum said. ”Now I know. I know what I have to go through right now. I know what the views of the media and the public will be. I know that, and I’m good with it.”
Batum won’t be making the same mistakes with his recent deal and after posting career-highs of 14.9 points and 5.8 assists last season, the only way is up for the unselfish wing.
