MLS round-up: Tyrone Mears earns point for Atlanta United at Philadelphia

Tyrone Mears came off the bench to secure Tata Martino’s Atlanta United a late 2-2 draw at 10-man Philadelphia Union.

The hosts raced into a first-half lead through goals from Roland Alberg and captain Alejandro Bedoya, only for Yamil Asad to quickly reduce the deficit with a superb first-time strike.

The Union’s position weakened further when Joshua Yaro picked up a foolish red card early in the second half, but United struggled to find a leveller.

It took until second-half stoppage time for Martino’s men to finally equalise, with former Bolton, Burnley and Derby full-back Mears scoring an unorthodox header at the death at Talen Energy Stadium.

The Columbus Crew earned a third win in five games after a 2-1 success over FC Dallas.

Goals from Ola Kamara and Jonathan Mensah put them 2-0 up before Walker Zimmerman made a game of it for Dallas.

DC United’s new found form continues with a 1-0 success over New England Revolution.

United had previously lost six out of seven games, but Luciano Acosta’s second-half goal made it three wins on the bounce.

The Vancouver Whitecaps beat Orlando 2-1, while Minnesota United eased to a 2-0 success against Chicago Fire.

Real Salt Lake City hammered Colorado Rapids 4-1 in the late game, with Luis Silva bagging a brace.
