MLS round-up: Chicago Fire extend unbeaten run

Chicago Fire extended their MLS unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-0 win over Atlanta United.

Goals in each half from Luis Solignac and Nemanja Mikolic was enough to keep their run going, which has seen them cut Toronto FC’s lead at the top of the Eastern Conference to just one point.

Matteo Mancosu’s late goal for Montreal Impact ended Sporting Kansas City’s winning streak on home soil in a 1-1 draw.

Sporting had won their last six home games and looked on course for a seventh when Gerso Fernandes put them ahead in the 24th minute, but Mancosu had other ideas with a late leveller for Impact, who had Chris Duvall sent off.

Fanendo Adi’s two goals helped Portland Timbers to a 2-0 win over FC Dallas in the other MLS game.

Didier Drogba celebrated his debut with US second division club Phoenix Rising FC by scoring a goal and adding an assist in front of 7,062 fans.

Phoenix defeated Vancouver Whitecaps’ reserve side 2-1 in a regular season league match.
