Mesut Ozil has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a three-and-half-year contract extension.
The German international becomes the club’s highest paid player – earning £350,000 per week – in a deal agreed this morning.
Ozil was set to become a free-agent in the summer and had been able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs since 1 January.
But the World Cup winner has spurned reported interest from Manchester United to potentially extend his stay with the Gunners to eight years, having joined from Real Madrid in 2013 for a then club-record transfer of £42.3million.
Ozil has scored 36 goals in 182 appearances for the north London club and is statistically one of European football’s most prolific creators of scoring opportunities.
