MANILA, Philippines – Lonzo Ball dazzled and led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Summer League final with a 108-98 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, July 16 (Monday, July 17, Manila time).

Ball sizzled with a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists to go with 4 rebounds but had to exit the game in the 3rd period with right calf tightness.

After receiving treatment, the highly-touted rookie point guard didn’t return to the match and remained on the bench the entire last quarter. Ball played a total of 21 minutes.

There is no confirmation if Ball will be able to play in the championship against the Portland Trail Blazers.

“No idea yet,” Lakers summer coach Jud Buechler said, according to Sports Illustrated. “We’ll see. We’ll find out after our breakfast. His health is number one.”

According to Ball, this is the first time his calf has gotten tight and is hopeful he could once again lead the Lakers against the Blazers.

“It’s tight still,” Ball said. “But we play at 7 pm [Pacific time] tomorrow so hopefully I’m ready to go. This is the first time my calf has gotten tight. [Sitting out] was just being cautious. I wanted to get back out there but the training staff took care of me.”

Ball entered the semi-final match strong and is an obvious candidate for the Summer League MVP award with an average of 16.4 points, 9.2 assists and 8.4 rebounds in 5 apprearances. – Rappler.com
