Competing in European football is about far more than pride to clubs.

If Liverpool beat Hoffenheim in the second leg of their play-off tonight, they will make a return to the group stages of the Champions League – which, financially, is significant for the Reds.

After making it to the Europa League final in the 2015/16 season, the Merseyside outfit were without European football in the following campaign, and that will have had a notable impact on the club’s bank account.

But how much is competing in the Champions League or Europa League actually worth?

Scroll through the gallery above to take a look at how much Liverpool have earned in TV and prize money from Europe, courtesy of figures obtained by The Times, over the past 10 seasons.

For the seasons not listed, Liverpool didn’t compete in Europe.
