Andy Townsend joined the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast and paid tribute to his former Aston Villa teammate Ugo Ehiogu, who has died at the age of just 44.
Ehiogu, who was Tottenham’s Under-23s coach, suffered a cardiac arrest at the club’s training ground on Thursday and passed away in hospital in the early hours of Friday.
“It is such a sad, sad day,” said Townsend, who won the League Cup at Villa Park alongside Ehiogu.
“We had some good moments on the field and some great moments off it. He was a proper lad, a great lad, a real good character and a trusted teammate. It is such a sad loss.
“It is a career cut tragically short and a young life cut so horribly short.
“I am genuinely saddened and shocked. I will miss him. He was genuinely a top bloke.”
