Kyle Lowry has achieved a lot in the basketball world. Fresh off the back of winning a gold medal with the USA at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the point guard has been looking back on his career.

The Toronto Raptors star became an All-Star starter for the second time in his career at the Air Canada Center in February – 12 months after starting at Madison Square Garden – and led the Canadian franchise to their first-ever Eastern Conference finals.

He recently headed back to his old college Villanova, who are the current NCAA champions after their victory over North Carolina, and spoke about the impact his former coach Jay Wright had on his career.

“It’s funny that I am able to say I have a gold medal,” the 30-year-old said. “My college, my coach won a national championship. I was close to getting a ring. (laughs) Close.

“Two games away from getting to the championship. I went to the Eastern Conference Finals, I have a gold medal, I have a beautiful family, I have great people around me.

“And it just shows how far a kid that comes up to a coach and says, ‘Yo where’s my scholarship?’ can go. It’s a long road, but it’s been a fun road, and I just want to thank you, coach.”
