GGG vs Canelo: Gennady Golovkin ready for 'biggest night in boxing'

Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez came face-to-face at their pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas

Gennady Golovkin believes his fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on Saturday night will be one of the biggest in boxing history.

The two fighters came face to face at the pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday ahead of what is one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year.

Golovkin defends his world middleweight titles against Canelo as he looks to extend his flawless record to 38-0, and the 35-year-old has hinted they could fight again in the future.

“I saw Canelo; he is ready for serious business, for a serious fight,” he said.

“This is the biggest fight for us and for boxing. It’s a historic fight and I don’t believe it is the last for us.”

VOTE: Golovkin or Canelo?

Who do you think will win when middleweight superstars Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez finally face off?

Alvarez, who is a three-weight world champion, has lost just once since turning professional in 2005 – a majority points decision defeat to Floyd Mayweather four years ago.

“I have nothing to say to [Golovkin],” said the 27-year-old Mexican. “They know what kind of fighter I am.

“I’m prepared, I’m ready. All I want to tell him is let’s give the fans a great fight.”

Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, added: “This is for supremacy, to see who is the best middleweight in the division, but also to see who the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet is.”

The fight, which takes place at the MGM Grand, sold out in less than two weeks.
