Carlos Carvalhal has told talkSPORT he is ‘fighting’ to add to his Swansea City squad before the transfer window closes.
After masterminding a 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Tuesday night, Carvalhal joined Jim White on Wednesday lunchtime and revealed his desire to make new signings before the 11pm deadline.
Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic and West Ham forward Andre Ayew are among the names being linked with the Welsh club.
“We are trying, we are fighting,” said Carvalhal, when asked whether Swansea are working on transfer business,
“I have been on the phone since 8 o’clock this morning. Let’s see what will happen.
“We are trying to cover gaps in our team since the beginning but the market is very difficult.
“We know exactly what we are missing and let’s see if something happens by the end of the transfer window.”
“I know that everybody is doing their best. If we can receive good players to add to the team, I will be happy.
“If not, I will not be frustrated or complaining.”
Eyebrows were raised at Carvalhal’s appointment as Swansea manager at the end of December, given he had been sacked by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday just a few days previously.
But he has had a stunning early impact at the Liberty Stadium, leading the Swans to wins over Liverpool and Arsenal and out of the Premier League relegation zone.
On the impressive turnaround, Carvalhal said: “We changed the formation, the new dynamic helped the players, and some of them after one or two or three games started winning more confidence and jumping to a new level.
“We have two or three players who I think are playing the best level of their careers at this moment.
“The players believe in what we are doing and this is very important. In all the clubs, the most important thing is the players.
“If the players don’t play and don’t follow, you can have the best plans in the world but it will not work for sure.”
