Arsenal could complete a dramatic late move for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer, who has also been linked with rivals Tottenham.
According to reports in Germany, the Gunners are ready to firm up their long-standing interest in the gifted midfielder before the window shuts.
Meyer, 22, is out of contract in the summer and can leave Schalke as a free agent.
Both Arsenal and Spurs – as well as Barcelona – had been linked with moves for Meyer once his contract expires but, according to Bild, he could leave before the window shuts instead.
Schalke are keen to get the highest fee possible and seem ready to cash-in on the young German, especially given his off-colour form since the summer.
Meyer has not managed a single goal or assist so far this term and it has been suggested that the speculation surrounding his future has affected his performances.
But it has been reported that it has not put off Arsenal, who could yet make another signing before the close of the window, having confirmed the £55million arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier on deadline day
